  • Fox having trouble at cold start up

    For the past three mornings, I've started the coupe and it has trouble running until it is warm. I will start it and it will start, sputter like it's missing, and die unless you keep your foot on the throttle to warm it up. It runs as if it's missing, but once warm it runs fine. Any ideas where to go from here?

          Can someone give me a little more info on this part? I googled, but found a bunch of dead end threads from different forums....

            The computer controls fueling on cold starts(and other conditions) based on what the ECT sensor tells it. If the ECT sensor is bad and the computer gets misinformation it will cause cold start problems for sure.

              It is threaded into the #5 runner of the lower intake manifold (front, driver side of engine). Before you replace it, i'd try just pulling it out and cleaning it.

                Or better yet, test the part while cleaning it.

                    I thought that was for the gauge?

                    The one for the PCM is over by the Heater pipe.

                    Or am I wrong?

                          It is in the coolant supply tube going to the heater core on the passenger side of the engine.

                            Ok, I think i'm just referring to the wrong name. The Air Intake Temp Sensor is in the driver side of the lower intake manifold. The ECT sensor is in the heater tube on the passenger side of the lower intake manifold.

                            Pretty sure the AIT Sensor is utilized by the computer under cold starts and the ECT sensor is for the temp gauge. Typically a car's temp gauge is based on the coolant temp, not an air temp sensor.

                              IAT is intake air temp in #5 runner
                              ECT is engine coolant temp for ecm-located in heater tube)
                              Temp sender is for the gauge ONLY and in the left front of the lower intake, single wire
                              Ring and pinion specialist
