  • inner tie rods ?

well got my gt tagged and inspected yesterday. It's nice driving a mustang but I wish it was stick. When I hit a bump or the road is uneven this car sways to one side then back to the other. It drives straight on even road and my steering wheel has about 1 inch play from side to side. My outer tie rods are new looking and don't have any play. How hard are they to replace and what brand do you recommend or do the racks wear out.

not hard at all, may take all of 10min each side, cut the metal right around the boot, move the boot, i think there are some c clips in there somewhere that you need to take off, get a big monkey wrench and turn, but you will need a tool to clamp the boot back together

I just use zip ties to re-secure the boots. Oh, and make sure you measure the overall length of from the inner to the outer tie rid end, or count the turns it takes to take the outer off the inner so you can get the toe somewhat close when you reinstall everything. Don't forget to get it aligned.

Upgrade to a 03/04 Cobra front end and shaft if you can. The shaft especially on the 94/95's were junk and you could get a cobra one for around $30. It will fix the play in your steering.

Your saying to upgrade the rack and shaft from a 03-04 cobra? Is it a straight bolt on?

well I went to replace the inner tie rods and they are thight with no play. So I unbolted the spindle to check my ball joints and they where shot. I replaced them with moog brand. But my sway from side to side is still there. It's tighten up some but it's still pulls. I think it's my tires which are new, the tread pattern is like the ones that go diagonal to the center. Not like your redular tire with theads going straight and parallel to each other. Any thoughts anyone.

Can you elaborate on the sway from side to side? Road walk? Play at the steering wheel?
