  • Shop Vac vs Rigid vacuums?

I bought a Shop-vac last year when they were on sale at Lowes. Works great except I got the one with an 1 1/4 hose instead of the one with the 2 1/2 hose. Anyone have any experience with one vs the other? Im gonna upgrade to a 2 1/2 hose one from either Lowes or home depot.

They both work... Damn filter is almost as expensive as the vacuum on sale.

Iv been reading some articles about them and it seems like rigids are a lot quiter. Honestly I cant find anyone who has used both and didnt prefer the rigid over shop-vac. Im also wondering if the difference in hp rating makes a big difference or not?

I have a craftsman with the 2 1/2" hose and adapters to use the 1 /14". Hell I think I am going to get another one for the otherside of the garage this season also.

The only thing I don't like is that the power cords are SO short. I hate extension cords, well not really just all the ones I have are like 100'.

I vacuum my garage like my wife vacuums the carpet in the house. I like to be able to walk around in socks in there and don't like all the crap laying around to get stuck to them.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Had a Sears, a Shop vac - moved into a Rigid - and LOVE the optional hose kit (cost alone was $37)- it has end connectors that rotate and another key is the vac is 4 wheels that rotate versus the vacs that have the back two wheels fixed

I've got a Rigid that I've beat on for ten years and it's still going strong. The filter gets clogged fairly quick, but the power is still great even with a dirty filter.

also had a 4hp ridgid thats been abused beyound normal jobs for about 5 years. never misses a beat (knock on wood). havent changed the filter ever. just bang the dusty, hairy, and sometimes ant infested crap out of the filter every once in a while and your good. would buy another if this one ever dies.

I have a 6 hp/16 gallon shop Vac. I have had it for probably around 8 years and it's been a very good piece of equipment. I can't really fathom getting one that sucks harder than this thing.
