  • New projector time

Well, it's time to upgrade my projector again. I'll sell it off, take the money and put it towards my next one. Here are the projectors I've been looking at:

    1. Mitsubishi HC4000
    2. Epson 8350
    3. Optoma HD23

I've been seriously considering the Epson 8350 1080p projector. I have a 120" screen and ceiling mount, and the lumen count and the contrast ratio on the 8350 is supposed to be spectacular. My last Mitsubishi and Optoma projectors didn't really make me that happy. Low bulb lifes, and as for the Optoma premature color wheel failure. Anyone have some experience with either of the three and want to chime in? Also, seems like 3 LCD technology is popular now, what exactly is that? I guess it's the replacement for the DLP color wheel - which I will gladly say goodbye the rainbows and color wheel failures.

One thing I'd really like to get is a 120hz refresh rate projector. I seem to remember Mitsubishi having one. I'd be willing to pay a few hundred more for it.

CJ a freind of mine has the epson 8100 and it is very nice and he has used it for almost 3 years on same bulb. You can turn the lights on and still see the picture.

Yeah the 8100 has a great rep, the 8350 is suppose to be even better. So that's good to hear.

The Epson I saw demoed at Hi End was bad ass. I think it was a 160 2.4/1 ultrawide that had a special lens on the front of the projector to stretch the image without losing it's natural look. Picture was fantastic, similar to a real nice DLP display.

Listen to CWO, he knows all the new tech and what's what these days, but that Epson surely didn't suck!

Sounds like it had an anamorphic lens. Most of those are out of my price range, and really I wouldn't want one, because you need a special projector screen for those or you waste 40% of your standard 16:9 screen. I'd really like a 120hz projector, but it seems they cost 3x as much for those, all in the 3k range.

I have the 8100 and am wanting to upgrade also, I'd like to get the 5010 and hopefully be done with upgrades for a while. I like the split screen feature and my daughter would love the 3d.
