Hey everyone Peterbilt Denton is hiring about 200 people for assembly work. You will start between now abd the first of April. The starting pay is around twenty bucks an hour and it will be second shift. The word I got is it should be good till at least 2013. Anyways you apply at the factory during regular business hours.

Welcome to corprate america. BTW the salaried employees are layed off based on performance. The plant workers are by senority (sp). But a 22 and hour to start and in 4 years your making 26 - 28 per hour I can dig it. I too have been layed off once. You just have to have a back up plan. They will call you back eventually.

I know that they didn't treat my friend Bobby very well in terms of keeping him working steady. He just moved up to Little Rock to take a job at CAT.

Laying people off is understandable, and the business has got to do what it's got to do, but it's the bringing folks back and then laying them off again without any clue of when they might get back to work again (if ever) that would be tough for me.

I used to work at BAX Global and would move line down items to Nashville for Peterbuilt all the time. I still have a certificate for "Outstanding customer service" for the account. Maybe I'll bring that with me when I apply. I can't remember my contact there..but I think he was over the shipping department.

I'm not saying someone should leave a steady job to apply fo this one. But if you are currently seeking employment this is a very good opportunity to make a decent paycheck. He'll if you work 2 years and get laid off you still get a decent severance package.

As someone that used to work there, I wouldn't be so bold as to say salaried employees are laid off based on performance.

Plant workers it's all about time on the job though. I personally got to lay off lots of people out there in '07. I took a voluntary layoff myself in '08 to go try other opportunities.

Honestly guys, jump all over this opportunity. It is a good plant to work in. There is plenty of pay and benefits to be had. Just go into it knowing that when the trucking industry turns for the worst, Piggott is going to hand you walking papers. At the top it is all about making money. Get all the stock you can now during the time it is going up too. Mark P will earn a ton of money for the company during the good times, and he will keep it alive during the bad times. It's the game they play.

There are tons of great guys working out there too. If I had a choice of going back there, I'd want to be in test or QA as an hourly employee over salary out there any day of the week.

Starting out though you are going to go on the line and bolt up parts. Being able to read blueprints and having basic mechanical skills and a history of good work will get you in. Honesty will get you in too.

I'm lucky though. I finally landed in the perfect job for me. They'd have to throw more money at me than they would ever dream to get me back in that plant on evenings.

have they hired u back yet?

No...but I just put my app in Thursday and they called back an hour later to tell me they got it and would put it up review first thing. I have great work history there, no call ins etc... so I don't think it will be a problem . But to anyone skeptical it is a great company to work for hell even being laid off I got a great severance package and a 6 month paid vacation

Not sure but there was about that much at the 9am test too (I'm sure the same amount every test since the stations are 4 people stations).

I didn't discover this thread until about a week ago, going in for a written test on the 23rd. It seems like there may be a good number of stangers working there.

It baffles me to try to think about what a written test to gauge aptitude for such a position would consist of.

Is the written test mostly just an attempt to weed out the total morons?

Mostly it is, I am sure. I took a written test to work at a Ford warehouse about 15 years ago. It consisted of some basic math and comprehension questions but then it also had some questions where it asked you to figure out how a couple of three dimensional shapes would look when put together. It was interesting I guess. I ended up getting the job but I can see how some people would be totally screwed by that test.

Good luck everyone, I lived in Denton for many years and always thought it would be cool to work at Peterbilt.

Shoes are fine but they don't want white ones. Get high quality and comfort in mind because the floor is hard as shit and you will be on your feet all day! Expect to be sore if your not already accustomed to these working conditions.
