  • Hvac ?

I set the heat on 71 and auto on both upstairs and downstairs. but the upstairs one gets up to like 75 in the middle of the night. I know hot air rises but damn 4 degrees difference. Do you think I need a new thermostat?

Is the t-stat downstairs? If so, that's just nature of the beast. You might need a bigger/better return air upstairs.

Actually, 4 degrees difference is perfectly normal.

Set the upstairs stat to 69 and see what happens.

My place is a 6-7 degree difference between the 2 levels so 4 doesn't seem all that wack to me. During the winter I usually leave the downstairs thermostat on 65 and stays perfect upstairs temperature wise all night for comfortable sleeping.
