  • Rebuild/ up grade my 8.8

    My plan is to up grade to 31 spline axles. I had upgraded to late model sn95+ brakes and rear axles. That pushes the rear wheels out 3/4" on each side. I wanted to go back to a fox length axle but retain the rear disc brakes. Moser came out with a 31spline axles thats fox length and has the sn95 hubs. I got the axles with 3" studs..they are awesome. First thing I did was modify the rear caliper mount so that it moves the caliper in 3/4".
    First you need to cut a corner off so it will fit over the axle tube...



    Then mount braket on the opposite side it was originally mounted on with the flat side flush against the axle flange..

    I cant see what you cut off, but ive never seen the part before it was cut. If that makes any sense.

    In my neck of the woods im going to have to find a 94 up rear end for my mont. It beats buying those brackets from lms.


    Edit: I see what you did. Do you think the 3 holes are sufficient Or you could weld the piece you cut off back on. You just couldnt take it off the housing anymore.

      I found the modification on the corral. . So I am not the first to do it. I think it will be fine.

            Ok.. I installed the new UPR upper spherical housing bushings. Got a complete new 31 spline Cobra diff. I discovered 31spline spider gears will not work in a 28spline carrier housing. Axles in and diff all mounted




            Discovered I needed to space out the disc brake caliper mount just a bit. Might try swapping axle braket and see if that will make up the difference I need to not use a set of washers..

                          Beef up any mounting holes with sypherical bushings. They will get elongated.

                          I actually wore a couple of the bushings out. Well i egged them out with only 300hp 400 with the bottle. They sent me replacements for free. This was something like 5 years after of street abuse as a daily.

                          I didnt ask for it they just asked for my addy.

                              Converted another rear brake system. Here is a side by side pic of how i cut the brake bracket..

                              Bolted to housing..
