    How can this be fixed?

Better throw it away and get another one. I'll come by and take out the trash.

You're missing a bolt on one of the alternator brackets.

They have them at home depot or lowes. In the hardware stainless section.

looks more like hard water stains vs. oxidation

maybe try wiping everything down with some CLR?

I'm betting you are correct. A little 50/50 vinegar/water mix should clean it up just fine.

I waxed that blower a couple of years back so that might have something to do with it.

Water here is pretty good. I have washed before with no issues. This time I was wanting to do a really good clean, so i used engine degreaser 1st, then rinsed off using my hand to wipe away. Since yiu said you waxed, wondering if the degreaser did that, or degreaser should not be used on aluminum??? Hope it's not the latter.

it's not going to hurt the aluminum, but it may have slightly etched the finish... wipe it down with some thin oil or silicone based stuff (tire dress, bumper black, WD40, whatever) and see if that doesn't bring it back

Try the 50/50 vinegar mix and find out. Some degreasers do not like aluminum.

I guess what I was saying is, it might cosmetically damage the finish, but it's not going to turn the blower into a pool of mushy goo

Lol, that would be an expensive pool of goo.
