  • Pluming + roots = ... pics inside

A couple weeks ago the kitchen sink backed up. Nothing was moving whatever was in there so we called a plumber. After over an hour of snaking, acid treatments, etc they finally got it cleared.

Then last week the master shower wouldn't drain so we called them back out. That time they determined that the sewer line, near the cleanout where it hits the main city line, had at least one root that had grown through it.

Sooooo, they came out the next day with a camera to do some investigating and found "2 roots." Both of them were under the office on the front side of the house. Of course they would give me a "discount" if I chose them to do the work... $3900.

I called up a friend who has just about every kind of contractor on retainer for his business and had his guys come out today to fix whatever the problem was. Instead of just patch fixing the supposed "two" spots that were causing the problem they elected to replace the entire line under that room just to be safe.

Well, it's a damn good thing they did. As soon as they got down there they realized that the whole pipe was split open like a banana.

    Two roots, my ass.

Anyway, here's what it looks like as of 45 min ago. They started this morning and by the time they leave this afternoon there will be fresh concrete drying. And they are doing it for 30% less than the first guys who "found the problem."

Oh, and the best part, in case anyone was wondering:
Apparently roots are a "maintenance" issue. Not covered by insurance.

I'll take an after pic this evening. I wonder how clean they'll get it before leaving.

Holy Jebus! I didn't really grasp what fixing your problem meant until I saw the picture of your office!

                      No shit.

Look between his legs. That portion of pipe you see is lit up by sunlight. That trench goes 6-8 ft out into the front yard all the way to the cleanout.

Better than literal shit stacked up elsewhere due to a fubar'd main line. I'm not too worried about the walls. As you can see, that one wall (normally covered by the gun safe) needs to be repained anyway.

That would be the least of my worries. Foundation doesn't appear to be that thin. At least, that's about the thickness I experience when you avoid the footers or whatever they are called.

Wow, that blows out loud. Now you've got me nervous because I have two huge trees, one in front and one in back and my shower is slow to drain.
