  • Mosin Nagant?

Is there really that big of a difference between the Circle receiver and the Hex receiver? I was wondering if i should hold off till i find a hex one or just go ahead and get a circle one if there isn't that much of a difference?

Cabelas has them on sale for $99 right now but only have circle ones. And also how good are they? I mean for $99 i don't expect it to shoot perfect just wonder how well they hold up.

I am by no means an M91/30 expert, but from what I have seen, the hex receivers are a bit older and are better quality, visible in the machining, this being because they did not have to churn them out in a hurry like the round receivers during WWII.

Also hex receivers are available at www.aimsurplus.com FFL FTW is Jeff Dowdle. www.livetoshoot.com done and done.

lol they "were" available. I called them yesterday afternoon like 5min before they closed and me being the nice guy that i am didn't feel like keeping them there late taking my order, so i told them i'd call this morning. Guess what? I called this morning and they were sold out. Nice guys finish last i guess. They have no time table on when they'll receive more.

I own several, it's an addiction. For 99 bucks, you are going to be very surprised at the accuracy, and durability. Just make sure all the cosmoline is cleaned out. They fire surplus ammo better than anything else. Also remember they were sighted in with the bayonet extended, so if it's off, put out the bayonet. The previous comments about the hex are true. Just try to find numbers matching if you can get your hands on them. If you use stripper clips, there is a technique to loading them, just look it up.

Well the reason I ask is if I just get a regular circle one will it be "that" much of a notable difference? Or just preference.

Try military gun supply in fort worth, bought one there a few years ago (91/30 hex) swapped it out even for a buddies M44

If you can, get a hex, better design(said to have more material) its the older design

Are they online ordering only? Or do they have a store front?

Just FYI, if you google - there are a few videos that explain all the differences in the Mosins. I can't remember the details either, but they made it real simple.

yeah military gun supply has both hex and round receivers they come with all accessories and if you ask the guy behind the counter nice he'll give you website pricing.

As far as difference the only real difference is age the hex were the early rifles that came about from the 91. the only real difference between the 91 and 91/30 is a bit shorter barrel, different rear sight and a slight change in the stock.

the younger you get in 91/30's the quicker they were produced for the war hence the machine marks and jointed stock

all of the rifles i've seen are shooters though buddy used to take one to the whitington center in NM and shoot 1k yrd with open sights with one

I had good luck wrapping the stock of the one I refinished on a bag that was open on both ends, then running the drier vent hose out into garage and poking it in one end of the bag. Ran the dryer a couple time one max heat until it stopped sweating cosmo.
