Yesterday, when we informed you that HTC would be taking another look at their bootloader policy, we were a bit doubtful that any decisions on the matter would be made any time soon. However, we are pleased to announce that HTC’s Peter Chou has announced on their Facebook page that locked bootloaders on HTC’s phone will be a thing of the past.

‎”There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we’ve listened. Today, I’m confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience,” Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

This is why HTC has done so well in such a short time - open software. Apple could take a note or two.

I recently bought an HTC Evo as my first smart phone and I'm trying to get up to speed. What is a "bootloader"?

if only I didn't have to keep a stockpile of batteries, HTC would be perfection

If you haven't rooted and.gotten off of the stock rom, you'll likely never experience decent battery life.

              I average 1-3mA draw @idle and screen off on CM7. I also run a 20% oc.

I don't have a problem with battery life as far as time on charge... I have a problem with batteries just dying... I'll have 3/4 charge, and the phone will just shut off.

Put a new battery in it, and the thing works like new.

I'm not cool enough to root these fucking things I guess. I did my G1, and it was a pain in the ass. All of the tutorials assume you already know how to do 90% of what they're telling you to do. If you are starting from scratch having never done any of that shit before, it reads in circles.

And when I got my G2, there still weren't any permanent root solutions. I'm fine with it as is. When I get another non-slide style HTC, I'll probably do the whole 9, but I don't care enough about this phone to want to mess with it

you'll read a tutorial... it tells you do this and gives you a link to a thread on how to do that... then in that thread, it tells you to do something else first and gives you a link on how to do that... then in that thread, it tells you do that first and gives you a link on how to do that... and that thread is the exact same thread you started on.

I know I have asked again, but what settings are you running? My phone draws more than that. I am on CM7 latest stable build.

I need to find a app that logs power draw but is easy to read ... many of the ones out there fucking SUCK when trying to decode the log. Right now I am running elixir and current widget.
