Why? I guess they appeal to me like a Diet anything. Also why do ya'll show off what you own on a public forum? I guess I'd be affraid someone would want my wepons more than me and do something stupid if they ever found where I lived.

Inexpensive, reliable, versatile, accurate, easy to find, easy to modify, and can be built however you like it. Does that not appeal to you?

Yes, they may do something stupid, like show up at your house and get shot.

Mine will serve multiple purposes, hunting, one of my home defense weapons, and plinking when I get my reloading setup going.

I don't care who knows what I have at home because anyone breaking my into my house is going to get one warning before I start firing off rounds.

What's the appeal of Glocks? XD's? Shotguns? 1911's? You can ask that question about anything really... They are basically the mustang of assault rifles and like Tony said

They just seem like conversation weapons more than something I would want in a time of need. Truly would you bring that out on a south texas deer hunt around seasoned hunters? I guess different strokes for different folks. I also prefer a 1911 to any other automatic pistol and people laugh at me for that one too.

For us prior service people, familiarly, nostalgic and they are good weapons.

I haven't ever seen anyone on this site using them as "conversation" weapons other than bashing them and using old rhetoric to start conversations.

I don't personally own one, but yeah, I suppose I'd take one on a hunt if it suited me. This isn't deer, but a hunt nonetheless (first link it pulled up). "Heli-hoggin'":

M1 Garand or carbine is Nostalgic. I guess Im the type of guy that if my weapon fell in a pond and was full of sand and crap I could load a shell and my weapon would function properly. Can a AR model do that? I know a majority of the guns I own will. Ive been Duck Hunting with numb hands LOL

I would never bash a weapon I simply wanted to know why everyone had one and what is the appeal. Its not like they are 10-22's that are a couple hundred these are expensive guns. I was out at a range on Fathers day and it seemed as if everyone around me was shooting some sort of AR model. People wouldnt even carry on a conversation with me anymore when I busted out a Savage 12 Its like they turned thier nose up at me. I just wanted to get answers like accuracy and cost and it seems like they were expecting me to already know. Hmmm Deja vu
