this dam phone is pissing me off now. i finally upgrade the OS to 2.2, i think, and now this phone is lagging like crazy. i can't play games and even just going from my gallery to the home screen takes time. i have also noticed that i can close stuff with advanced task killer and find that more has opened up. i can't get rid of AT&T hot spot and crap like that. any ideas what i can do to stop this thing from lagging really bad. i love playing drag racing and now i can't cuz of the lag.

The stock gallery is a laggy POS, use quick pic for one. Just change the rom to serendipity7 on xda. It's a stable 2.3 build, I've been running it since june.

Search the market for quick pic, use it instead of the gallery.

The rest is about a custom rom from someone on xda-developers.com

i called AT&T and did a phone reformat then a software format and they ended up sending me another phone. i got that phone today and it is just as bad, or worse then my original. im thinking about calling Samsung up and talking to them about it. what i would like to do first is to maybe downgrade the OS to 2.1 instead. has anyone done this? my phone worked a ton faster on 2.1 over 2.2. im watching videos on youtube on this, but wanted personal experiences.

They'll be pushing a Gingerbread update to those pretty soon if I'm not mistaken. Call att again and tell them the new one is worse. After the third one, they'll give you a different phone. Ask for the infuse or inspire. I can work on the inspire, the infuse I cannot. No Sammy experience.

they said they would send me another phone already. i was talking to them 2 times tonight. should i just have them send me another? the girl i talked to the second time was telling me about the infuse. it's basically the same thing i have now just a bigger screen and some other cool stuff. right now i have 2 captivates, 1 i have to send back. i thought about keeping my original and sending the second one back. thoughts?

edit: she also was saying something about Gingerbread too. and, she said she had the same phone, and had a slight lag problem but not like im having, from what i can tell. perfect way to describe this 2.2 for me is it is a paper weight i make calls on

The galaxy s hardware is nice. You're doing it wrong by leaving it on at&t rom.

Yeah, it's not the phone, it's the software. I've been running Serendipity 5.9 (a custom version of Android 2.2) on my Captivate since it came out, with absolutely no issues.

6.4 ain't bad either, neither is 7, but apparently it's too hard to install. :|

well, i honestly would love to root my phone, i just don't wanna brick it. i guess since my wife has an upgrade in Sept, i hope i can use her upgrade and give her my phone. i don't think the lagging will bother her like it does me.

I could be mistaken, but I think you can recover from just about anything with Odin3.

i have been looking at the rooting thing, and alot i've seen leads me to ryanza's one click root, it's cost money. is there something else i can look at using, if i got that route?

This will give you root but no recovery. I don't know what the recommended recovery is for the Cappy or the proper way to flash it and a rom.

Haha. I backed up everything last night and tried to install it first thing this morning. Went through both parts with Odin, put the version 7 ZIP onto my external SD card, rebooted...and installed 5.9 from the internal SD card. I was still half asleep when I did all this, but it installed perfectly!
