  • ps3 went dead...

    My lil boy just called me and said that the ps3 died. Has been acting up for past week. I kind of figured it was gonna go out. I've had this same 60gig ps3 since it came out. Just froze and never came back on. It did get the YLOD. Anyone here ever get theirs fixed and does it still work good? I thought about doing some reading and see if I can fix it myself. One thing I did do was backed up my saves last night.

    Call me for quick, reliable repairs for your PS5, PS4, PS3, XBOX ONE , Xbox Series S & X, Xbox 360 Nintendo Switch, Wii, iPad, Tablet, Kindle or Laptop in the Plano, Dallas -Gadget Guy TX

    A friend of mine just had his fixed for the same thing. YLOD is to the PS3 what the RROD is to the 360. He had to reflow the solder on the mobo/gpu and apply new TIM for the HSF. I think it was $70 out the door.

      yea...I was reading about the reflow on the MB. There's a guide I found that has the how to's and vids to it. Figure I could try to knock it out myself. Was trying to find a thread here about that awhile back. Want to say Matt(silverback) mentioned it, but can't find it.

        Let me know how it goes. Mine recently went dead as well. And i've had mine since launch. Talked to sony and they offered a new model 160gig for $99. But I don't wanna get rid of mine as it is the one that can play ps1 and ps2 games. I know a buddy that works with electronics and stuff and can solder boards and stuff. Just don't know if i wanna send it to him or pay sony $150 to fix mine.

          Got it all apart. Pretty damn dirty inside. Cleared it out using some compressed air from can. The thermal paste was pretty much dried up. Need to run by frys and pick up some more and possibley a heat gun. Had to redo some soldering, which was a pain in the ass. Hopefully I got right. I'll update this later this weekend.

              YLOD=0....Rafa=1

              Well I guess I fixed this mofo...hell yea.
              1st thing I did was plug it in and tried to eject MW2 that got stuck and it just turned on smooth and ejected my disk. Only thing I had to do was fix the time and that's it.
              Gonna back up this 60gig, and upload to a bigger HD.

              I used this guys guide. Worked perfect. It's 6 parts.

                    Was playing MW2 for a bit and it froze. I was like damn, that didn't last long..LOL. Not sure if it has to do with that big ass slash that's on the disk or if the game is processor hungry. I restarted and played Infamous that I downloaded and lil bro and I started to play Mortal Kombat for a good while. No hiccups at all. Hopefully it was just a disc issue, but I'll keep an eye on it. Read that some will last from a few weeks to about another year or so.

                    MOMO...
                    If it lasts, I'll make sure to keep it clean. Don't know why I let it go w/out ever cleaning it. The paste was dried up and fallen apart.

                      Little update....

                      I know it's only been fixed for about a week, but I haven't had any issue's at all. MW2 freezes because of a pretty deep scratch. Been playing other games and watching movies for a good while and not one issue. They fan is not as loud and does not come on as it did before. Just picked up a 320gig and going to swap when I get home tonight. I already did my backup of the 60 gig.
