  • Multi-State / Legal Question

Well I am heading out to my Cousins in Alabama over New Years. Wife and I are packing up the 22nd and heading across the U.S.

Legal question, I will be going through Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. Is there anything I should be worried about because I am transporting firearms? I am taking both my AR-15's, Shotgun, (4) Handguns and potentially a WASR AK (if I can score it this weekend) plus enough ammunition to destroy LOTS of targets. My cousin has land that we are going to decimate melons, 2 liters, paint cans, maybe a manikin ...just about anything on.

I have to visit FL so my wife can see her Parents...

I'd really like to bring this thread back to the top. I have read a few state's clauses and even a place like Alabama prohibits you carrying a loaded pistol in your car.

I am driving Texas through Louisiana, then Mississippi, then stopping in Florida to see the in-laws then driving up to Alabama. As long as i keep them unloaded and in the trunk/hatch area...no issues? I am taking them to go shoot on some land in Alabama...

You shouldn't have issues if it's locked up in the trunk. Just don't take hollow point bullets to NJ.

You might want to look at a book called "The Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States". I've seen it a a few different local gun stores but haven't bought or read it.
