Howa 1500

Has anyone ever shot one, or owned one. I'm building a "sniper" type of .308 with that barreled reciever. Just curious if anyone has ever had one. Let me know.

You could copy snipercentral.com's setup. They offer an entry level tactical rifle based on an hbar Howa 1500. Their tolerances are nice, but you'll have to get into reloading to get the most out of them. If you haven't bought the barreled action yet, you might look into building a Stevens 200 up. They're super easy, and even though all you want is the action to start with, complete rifles can be had for <$250.

I've already got the stock that I want and it is specific to the howa 1500 and wetherby short action rifles. Here is a link to the stock that I bought.

Cool. Be aware that even though the manufacturer's tolerances are pretty good with that rifle, some of the limitations of the gun are not easily or cheaply overcome, namely, the amount of free-bore I presume is present, since it's basically a weatherby vanguard. You may have to reload to get the most out of that gun. Ultimately, a compromise is first and foremost that, a compromise. You should have a pretty good shooter out of the box, though. Most of the guys on the gun boards are getting around a half MOA with careful ammo selection, and disciplined shooting. The best part about having a new gun is buying a bunch of different ammo and seeing what it likes to eat.

Yeah, that is true. How many rounds do you think it takes to properly break in a new gun/barrel? And when you say a half MOA what distance is that at?

1MOA = 1.047" @ 100yards, 2.094" @ 200yards, etc...

Gotcha. What is considered a good shooting rifle, in MOA standards?

I have a Howa 1500 in 22-250 and it is one the best shooting rifles I have ever owned. With cheap ass factory Core Lokts grouping under a dime at 100.

I feel Dillon is the best press out there, they make quality products.

From the factory a rifle shooting MOA is a good shooting rifle. A custom rifle would be .5 or better.

Got good reviews and good savings at opticsplanet.com I'm not advertising for them, but they have some badass prices and free shipping for orders over 30 bucks I think, maybe 29. I'm really looking forward to shooting the rifle. Thanks for the imput. Oh and I'm torn between the blued and stainless finish. If the blued was a flat black looking finish I would def. go with that. Chopped 54, is yours blued??

You can get it in pretty much any color you want.
It is a 2 part coating that is durable as hell.

I just did some research on it, looks like the durabake might be better. It comes in an aerosol. Then you bake for 15 mins.
