  • Not exactly thread worthy but...

Just thought I would throw this out there for anyone in the same situation I was/am in.

Back in January I had my yearly physical and found out my cholesterol was at 219 and triglycerides were high too. Doc said if I can't get it down that I'll have to go on meds (for the cholest) and said that high tri's were a risk of diabetes. I was told to exercise more, eat better blah blah... The last thing he said was to come back in 3 month's for a follow up, but also said "by the way, if you eat one serving of oatmeal every day, it can lower your cholesterol by as much as 25%". I've seen the commercials but didn't pay attention.

Well, I did that (ate the oatmeal, every day) and only missed 4 days out of 3 months. Got my results back today and cholesterol went from 219 to 188 and tri's went from 186 to 149.

I really didn't change much in the way of working out but did stop the blue bell almost completely. I have to give credit to the oatmeal.

    And there ya have it.

I actually don't mind it at all. Had to eat it as a kid (being po white trash) and grew to like it.

Mary can't believe I can eat it and actually enojoy it.

The quick serving Quaker is good. 1 packet of apple cinnamon mixed with 1 maple brown sugar does not suck.

Yes, must be made with milk. Water in oatmeal is nasty.

Great job, man. I'd eat petrified dog turds if it will keep away the meds for diabetes and cholesterol. You've convinced me to eat oatmeal, and I don't even need it!

I was hoping he would come in here.
                        Have a question for him...

Found it odd that when I went back for my follow up visit, the doctor insisted on doing another prostrate check.

                        Me:
Doc: now, take your clothes off
Me: where should I put them.
Doc: Put them on the chair... by mine.
                        Me:

I love oatmeal. My cholesterol was high-ish, but no where near 219.

My doc finally diagnosed me with idiopathic Hypertriglyceridemia (take that Dr. Google! ). Even with diet and fish oil (LOTS of it), my triglycerides are still staying in the mid to high 200s. HDL and LDL are good though.

I'm glad the oatmeal is working for you though. You is a good dude, can't be having you clutch your chest and drop. If you haven't already, give Irish oatmeal a try. It's pretty good.
