      ITunes blows for sharing music.

Yes. Jut don't buy the music through iTunes and you'll be all set. Buy music however you wish and import a copy into iTunes. If a friend wants to "borrow" the music, share the copy that's not imported into iTunes. Real easy.

If you've got music in iTunes, download "easy phone tunes" from the Android market, and then also download from their site to your computer. This will allow you to sync your Android phone with iTunes.

If you burned it to a CD/DVD from iTunes couldn't you just rip it again to another person's iTunes? Also doesn't Amazon sell DRM free music?

Any music that you download, either online or from a disc, goes into a folder.....usually just "my music" from the start button. iTunes has its own, but it's structured the same. All music purchased on iTunes after 2007 (or 08) is unlocked and can play on any device. All you would have to do to get around iTunes is create a folder, copy and paste the raw files to it, then copy and paste to the device.

You can also use the cloud (dropbox for example) to move files. Androids can stream from your computer to your phone as long as your data plan is up to par.
