  • Why doesn't my laptop go to sleep sometime?

I have my power settings set to turn of the monitor after 5 minutes of inactivity, and then sleep mode in 10 minutes. It always does as set after a restart, but for whatever reason, after a few days the laptop stays on unless I click the sleep button or close it.

All settings remain unchanged when I go look, it just won't sleep until I restart again. Is there perhaps some background application that I am unaware of that causes this?

its possible you have a rogue process or something, do you have a mouse connected to it? any scheduled task?

This may sound dumb, but are both of the settings areas changed, i.e. the "when plugged in settings" and the "when on battery" settings? And have you noticed different behavior when it's plugged in vs. when it's running on battery power?

Nothing about how I use the laptop changes when this happens, I use pretty much the same applications day in and day out. After a restart and opening all of my usual stuff, it sleeps fine for a while, and I don't have anything scheduled, other than it automatically asks for a restart once a week.

Plugged in it's set to dim the screen in 5 minutes, and only 1 minute when on battery.

Dimming the screen and going to sleep are 2 different things.
