  • Laptop won't connect to interweb after Win 7 update

So my laptop did a Windows update this weekend and ever since I have been unable to connect to WiFi. I am in a hotel so its a public WiFi that takes you to one of those terms of service page first to accept their terms or whatever. My WiFi says connected but the page just times out when trying to connect. I noticed with this Win 7 update that it updated to IE 10 so I'm guessing it has to do with security settings. I tried to lower the settings as low as possible but still no dice. Any help?

Is their a ethernet port somewhere in your room? If so plug a Cat 5 cable up to it and and into your computer and see if you can get on that way. If you can, download google chrome.

Yup. One of those two or popup blacker is blocking something.

Just to be clear, mozilla is my browser of choice but even before the Windows update, it would never redirect to the tos page, so I'd have to start with IE to accept the terms, then mozilla would work. Now, neither works.

Fire up system restore and roll it back to a restore point prior to update.

So I uninstalled the update which took me back to ie9. Still no connection. It's showing packets sent and received, but it won't connect to anything. Even tried a cat5 cable and port but no dice.

Where you located? I've dealt with this a few times with various computers and in my experience its usually settings that need to be reset.

So I finally figured it out. Some setting changed during the update which wouldn't allow IE to automatically redirect to the TOS page to accept the TOS. So it would just time out every time. I have no idea what setting this is, but I just found the TOS page address and plugged it in and what do you know. Fucking A.

So does anyone know what setting this is so I can change it for good?
