    WASR value?

    I know there are plenty of Century Arms haters on here, and I'm not the biggest fan of them either especially if I am having to purchase one sight unseen. But I found one locally for $550 that is in great shape, has the original wood stocks as well as polymer furniture and 2x 30rd mags. Before people start jumping on here and saying they wouldn't pay $550 for a $250 gun, lets be honest... the days of $250 AKs of ANY sort are behind us just like $50 Mosin 91/30 and $80-100 SKS.

    I'd really like to attempt to build an AK at some point but right now I do not have the time/patience/tools to do so, and I really don't want to drop well over $1000 on some Maadi or other "higher end" AK. So in today's market would you say a good condition WASR is worth it? This honestly doesn't look like it was assembled by thumbless chimpanzees in the dark with a hammer and chisel, its in decent shape. Front sight is aligned properly and there is very little play in the mag well (isn't just a little normal?).

    Overall, thoughts?

    I'd be tempted to pick it up at that price. New ones still are in the 8-900 range which is what I paid for my SGL!

        It's not THAT bad, but $450 would be where I would really think is a good deal for a WASR. Just keep in mind it's the lowest quality AK there is.

          Last gun show I was at I found one for $399, which is what I paid for mine. I don't care what anyone says, I ran over 600 rounds through mine without cleaning it and it chewed up everything.

            I'd say it's not a shabby deal considering prices are still inflated and Century's dealer pricing is currently $739.87 on them right now

              If it's a clean rifle and runs, its worth that price. I'd buy it.

                Damn! I had no idea it was that high. I was under the impression that they are backordered for over a year from CIA as well

                    Bought my WASR from SWGuns before I even new about the common issues with them. Thankfully, no canted front sight. The only issue I had was the bolt hanging up on the dust cover, slight dremeling solved that.

                    Sounds like a great deal considering the jacked up prices nowadays.

                      Forgot to add, if the original wood furniture is anything like mine, it would make great campfire starter wood in a pinch. Really though, with some time and a little elbow grease, you can make that furniture look nice.

                        I still have a wasr and it is one of my favorite dependable beaters, I would say that is a good price today.

                          Thats what I keep hearing, as long as you can check it out beforehand and make sure its not a turd its typically a good value

                            Yeah, its not the nicest and it has the less than smooth bolt return action that mist of them have, but it has never failed to run.


                            Edit, I did get it to jam once, using a slidefire stock. So that was my fault, lol.

                            I recently put the 74 brake on it and ditched the birdcage.
