  • Loud banging under car when it rains hard...

    2013 5.0 6-speed Manual
All stock except for cat back
    9,200 miles

This morning was the 2nd really hard rain I have driven in where there was standing water on the road. I get this really loud banging noise after having to drive through a few of the water puddles. It is very hard to pin point because these cars are very loud inside when raining hard.

It seems to do it when I accelerate and it almost feels like the car is not accelerating as it should when it happens. Also, when I pulled into my parking spot this morning (hard left with clutch pushed in) it did it.

It only does this when it is raining hard enough for water to collect on the roadways. Therefore it is very hard to reproduce it.

    Anybody got any ideas?

just a thought but I would check uppers and lowers control arms and k member. Make sure all that stuff is tight.
You would be surprised the stuff that is actually loose from the factory.
        good luck

Check the exhuast.. look for piping that's really close the bottom of car. Water is slamming it against the bottom of the car. Thats my guess....

If it were just one single bang that would make sense...but it is multiple bangs in a row... and continues even after driving through the water.

I did a look over but never actually put a wrench to the suspension bolts. Will check that.

Is it the stability control going crazy?

Could it be one or both of the cats contracting due to the rapid temp change?

Sounds like your traction control is kicking in.

I took a turn pretty hard and got a little loose and it came on. I was like fuck! Did I just break my car with 150 miles on it?!?

lmao. It annoys the hell out of me. Got a little loose on the slick streets this morning and it was driving me crazy leaving stop lights. I usually turn it off after firing up the car unless it's raining outside or I'm on the freeway.
