  • 2.3t tuning help

So I just recently got my 87 turbo coupe put back together after new injectors, header, turbo, external w/g, fmic, ect. But now the car won't idle for anything. Will pop and bang, ect. My question for you guys is what's the best piggy back or standalone systems you guys have used. I'm really leaning towards a micro-squirt based setup, but this is going to be the first car I've ever tuned so I'm looking for something easy to understand and use.

I'd double check the timing on it...

It shouldn't need a "tune" to idle.

You either have the timing way off, or a vacuum leak, or the timing belt is a tooth off. Check to make sure you have those basics covered.

Check out the Quarterhorse from Moates. Your ECU should have a ton of support out there to get you going. Does it have a MAF yet?

fyi these things will run with two of the plug wires crossed. (ask me how I know{facepalm}) and it bangs and pops at idle.

Thanks for the points to check out guys. A little more back store is it was running fairly good until the other day when I did a 1st and 2nd pull. It fell on its face near the end of 2nd gear and thats when it really started popping and banging.

Check for boost leaks or the plugs. Sound like you popped a hose off of something.

All the hoses seem to be good. I've got it taken apart right now so I'll check the plugs. Also, for some reason the breather in the back of the valve cover has vacuum, shouldn't that actually blowing and not sucking?

...you still have vacuum at idle. Boost only under a load.

Stock cam? If so I'd say you've got some leaks

Hard acceleration and then shit idle/running? Split a coupler or jumped a cam tooth.
