  • Junior Dragsters

I don't know much about the Jr. Dragsters but a few very basics.
My son will be 7 in May and I understand he can start making test hits.

Are there any members here with experience or advice about getting him into a beginner set up?

I did it for several years as a kid and even came home with a Wally. My advice would be to first ask your son if he wants to do it and make sure he knows what he is getting into. I really did not like it, but my Dad did and we did it together.

You burn a whole day on the weekend when I would have rather been doing other stuff, get up early as fuck, may go out the first round, sit around in a fire suit in 100 degree weather, and actually drive for maybe a minute each time out.

I was much more interested in shifters and bandoleros but I never got into it. We are after all a drag racing family.

On the flip side, I had some friends that loved it. I wanted to do it really bad, but my parents didnt see it being worthwhile.

          Happy birthday, btw.

From what I am finding on line an okay beginner used set up will run $3500-$4000.

Why be a dick dude? I said I liked the 20 seconds of racing and hated the 8 hours of downtime and burning a Saturday/Sunday when all my friends and the neighborhood kids were out doing stuff. Hell, we didn't even have money back then.

I really enjoyed Spec Miata later in life, but I don't have the money now.

So it's just like any drag racing then. It's boring 80% of the time.

My parents tried to get me into jr dragsters when I was a kid. They wised up and a home built go-kart that I could play with all my friends would be more enjoyable to me.

Sure, but as a kid I didn't understand it. I sat in a car and went down a track for 20 seconds then sat around 99% of the time.

My advice to the OP would be to let his kid know what he is getting into as best he can, telling him that it will eat weekends and that it will be a lot of downtime and boredom.

with a name like big dad, it sounds like you would have kids. you must know kids like what they like. the fact dohctor comes from money has nothing to do with him liking a sport or not.

wow that felt wierd. i usually prefer to join in on the ballbusting dohctor gets.

                            god bless.

money or not, being bored is being bored. What he described is the reason I never got big into going to the drag strip, and thus also the reason lemons is fun.
