What you got? In keeping with the .22lr trend, let's discuss your .22lr uppers. What works and what doesn't?

I want to build a short barreled upper for my registered SBR but in .22lr for a little range toy.

I use a CMMG conversion kit. Works pretty well. It cracked one time using it. Called CMMG they asked me to email them pictures. I did and they sent me a new one right away.

I have a CMMG 22LR complete upper. Bought it for my son but I keep finding myself shooting it and having a blast. Reliability is outstanding as long as you keep the butt solid on the shoulder.

20" cmmg dedicated upper. We have had a single goofy double feed but other than that no issues.

Has stainless CMMG bolt, Cmmg charging handle, Taccom upgrades to firing pin, extractor, and buffer spacer. 4.5" barrel so every .22 ammo is subsonic, and it's meant to be fire with a suppressor always.

That is exactly what I am looking for. Maybe a slightly longer barrel, maybe.

Just keep in mind once you pass 5.5" some ammo will start to go supersonic, so if you plan to shoot it with a suppressor you might want to keep it shorter. The barrel is a Clint Beyer 4.5".

They're apparently pretty accurate.

I have a cmmg upper with a 4.5" barrel. I've had a few minor issues mainly just ammo, but other than that it's fine.

After doing a bunch of digging and looking, I ordered 3 Chiappa uppers, each comes with 1 mag. One for my dad, buddy, and myself. They are coming out of Abiline so I had them shipped to a buddy just across the border to save the tax money. For the price CDNN is selling them for, I couldn't justify spending the coin on a drop in conversion and didn't want to spend $400+ on a dedicated upper. Black Dog Machine was having a sale on there M4-22 Mags so I ordered 6, 2 a piece for each of us.

The only thing I don't care for is the upper being poly, but I figure I can pick up a blem upper at some point and swap the parts over. They are cheap for a reason, the bayonet lug is too large to actually take a bayonet and the front side and flash suppressor/break are held in with set screws rather than pinned and threaded. (taken from what I read online). It does however have the correct twist and most everything I could dig up gave pretty good reviews. A lot of people recommended doing a CMMG or Spikes complete upper if it was in your budget.

When you want to part with the poly upper let me know. I could use them with my poly lowers to built a light .22lr for my daughter. I don't think a poly upper on a dedicated .22lr bolt/barrel is that bad. It would take an out of battery discharge to begin to harm it.

I am debating sinking a $200 stamp on a poly lower for an SBR though.

Thanks for the barrel line and info. I am trying to find one now. The shortest dedicated .22lr barrel that CMMG sells is a 6.5"

Did your wife pick that kit up used? I can't imagine it all being in one nice little easy package like that already.

I got it off a guy on arfcom, I had a thread up and I got 2 responses in 2 months, one of them was a great deal.

Yeah you have to piece together the 6.5". I was just about to buy one through Chris when that guy sent me a pm at the last minute. Chris can get you a good deal, better than cmmg's website.

The 6.5 is reported to occasionally have a pop, but mostly subsonic. Since .22 is blowback operated, short barrel lengths do not have much effect on reliability like it does on a gas operated system. I wanted to go as short as I can and still get accuracy. I'm looking for a stupid light gun like any .22 should be.

I am looking at the Beyer right now, $180. 1-16" 4.75" I figure I would rather have the lighter rounds stabilized better than the subsonic heavy stuff, instead of going with a 1-9".
