  • Getting some work done.

First time towing a school bus was yesterday. Thought I would share with you guys. I've been bitten by the heavy bug for a while now. Hopefully sooner than later I can step up to a 16 ton wrecker then I can really start doing heavy stuff. I've had a few medium duty tows the last couple of weeks and have really enjoyed them.

There's some pics on the website if interested. http://www.titantowing.net/Gallery

edit... can't get the motor home pic to attach correctly.

No sir. You can pull a day cab with ease with a 16 ton, but not a fully loaded tractor and trailer. A 16 ton would handle some larger tractors, class A motor homes, larger buses, etc. I would only buy a true heavy if I had a need for it like a freight company or larger fleet company wanted to pick me up as a primary provider. Otherwise I will have to wait until I can buy one in cash bc I don't want to be making payments on something I don't use daily.

          This is a 40 ton:

And a note on the bus tow. Since it went to a scrap yard I had to scale everything. Gross combined weight was 27.5k lbs. Although it looked like a lot, buses that size aren't very heavy IMO. My truck is 13.5k lbs unloaded. My rollback actually weighs more.

              Getting some work done.

A buddy of my dads owns Skeeters. His rigs are huge. Must be a profitable biz from what I can tell

Guess his are the 40 ton trucks

If you can focus on rig towing, there's some serious money to be made there. Almost blank check levels, especially with big carriers.

Finished the third, and final, bus today. This Grumman delivery van came in right after I finished so I grabbed it and headed to Decatur from Haltom City. It was bought by some TV crew/show filming in Decatur. They were pretty tight lipped about what they were doing, but it was a ranch with plenty of PBR stuff around...

Ran up to Sherman today for this one. It was donated to a local charity out of Arlington.

This one was a little heavy today. It was about 35 miles from Arlington. The company was on the way to Abilene when it started having motor trouble. Lucky for them it was only out by the 30/20 split in west Fort Worth. The tow from Abilene back would've been high!!

I included a pic of the hook up for those that might wonder what is different. This got the full treatment. Since the motor died and it had been sitting, there was no air for the brake system. My truck doesn't have air (which may change soon) so I had to cage the rear brakes. Along with pulling the drive shaft, total load time was about 30 minutes... on the side of I20 with drivers that don't give me an empty lane like the law requires.

Had another medium duty call today. This went from Haltom City to Haslet to the auction.
