I just bought a CMMG .300 blackout upper 16" and am looking for a low profile gas block and different hand guards....It has a standard height block on it and standard hand guards...Wanting like 13" or something that will run just about the length of the entire barrel. I will also need some guidance on how to remove/install the block. Anyone?

What is the diameter where your gas block sits? I have 2 blocks, both .750" and one is low profile and the other adjustable but it is not low profile.

Buy the $11 gas block on amazon from veriforce tactical and pick up a samson evo 13" rail (assuming you like it), should be able to get that done for around $150 or so.

.750" is the standard gas block diameter, .625 is the pencil barrel diameter, and .950 is the bull barrel diameter. Those are the three of relevance.

CJ, would the 15" be too long? I'd like to have nothing but the flash hider to be protruding from the hand guard....

Also, what are some other rails to consider? The Evo looks okay, as I like just a rail on top and a smooth handle down the bottom and sides...

I have a 15" Evo rail on my LR308 which has a 16" barrel. Here is a picture for reference:

It depends on what you want exactly. The troy alpha TRX is another modular (non quad) rail. I personally don't care for them because they are rough on your hands, and kind of ugly. There are some new keymod rails on the market as well. I haven't looked within the last year so I'm sure there are others. For me price/weight is what matters, and the EVO is both of those. DOHCTR would be a good person to ask, as well as phaux, they were both at SHOT and saw some of the new rails I'm sure.

Thanks, CJ. Cost and weight are of the importance on this as well....Looks like the 15" rail is going to provide the "look" I want, where just the end of the barrel and flash hider stick out.

Now, once I get these parts, I'm assuming the gas block is not a hard change and I see they have a video on the EVO site for the rail installation....??

can you take a picture of, or post a stock photo of the upper you have?

Perfect candidate. The Evo rail attaches to the standard barrel nut via a "thermal coupler" that comes with it. Yours has that under that carbine handguard, just pull it off. Your front gas block is a clamp style, so you can remove that with hex keys and then pull the front handguard retainer behind it, then knock the gas tube pin out of your old gas block, and slip on the low profile block, pin the tube and you're done.

^thermal coupler that snaps over factory barrel nut. That's also the same low profile gas block for $11 I recommended.

then the rail slips over the coupler and you tighten it down with a hex key.

Will require removal of flash hider, correct?

Yes it will have to come off. You can take a flash hider off one of three ways. You can use a proper AR15 armorers wrench, a regular 3/4" wrench, or a large flathead screw driver slipped through the flash hider slots.

Well, I ordered the Evo rail a day too early. Just got an email from MidwayUSA and they have the damn thing on sale for $174.49 - thought I'd share in case anyone else was looking to get one.
