  • You guys be careful with your firearms.

A sad story I was made aware of this weekend, a co-worker of my friend was killed over the weekend at his property out in the sticks, he tossed his gun into the glove box and it went off and shot him in the upper torso/neck area.

I did ask what kind of pistol it was so I'm hoping to have some news soon.

I only post this because I have done this many times, not really tossing it, but being a little aggressive in dropping it into my center console or even my glove box.

I've always worried about something like this, I make sure the barrel is pointing the opposite direction of me when I store my gun in the truck.

            Point gun away from you

put gun in some kind of holster when storing in glove box.

Sad to hear. Some people get so used to the guns they get careless.

I did ask since this was my first thought, It appears it was him and his wife, no problems that we know of but, you never know.

Always, especially if someone is in the next seat, I keep it pointed way fro them as I'm securing it.

It is very sad, especially if no foul play, for his wife to see that and then drive him to the nearest hospital, from which I understand was very far away...

What kind of gun? Most guns don't just go off.

They do when you've been married for over 10 years and stick them in a new, younger holster.

The only time I have ever had a gun discharge is when I had a finger on the trigger. Unless it was not in a holster and something hit the trigger when he tossed it in, this sounds suspicious.

I've had a gun discharge with no finger on the trigger. It can happen. But only in rare circumstances, and safety was still in effect, and the gun was pointed away from anyone.

Worn out holsters occasionally set off guns without manual safeties. It happens. They get floppy, and caught in the trigger when the gun gets holstered, and give the guy carrying them a new asshole in his leg or his foot.
