Who the hell knows the proper punctuation anyway? Any who....

Am I crazy for thinking I can get a decent 2-seater go-cart for around $500 for my 3yo girl and myself to jack around on? Mama already gave the green light but a quick CL search didn't turn up much in that range. Who all has experience with these things?

Man I've been looking for about a year now for just an old school 3-5hp Briggs and Stratton. But all I see are the Chinese ones with suspension and lights push button start.

    God bless.

      I got a 30hp rotax for 2K...there's gotta be a shitty Briggs for 500.

Kart will most likely give you a race kart.

Search for yerf dog, Murray cart or go cart. There's a lot below 500

I assume Yerf Dog is cheap Asian stuff? Oh well. Maybe I can build one with a 600cc motorcycle engine for cheaper.

I lucked out and picked one up last week that was advertised on FB under one of the sale groups. Murray, 5hp Tecumseh. Needed a chain and front wheels for $100. I grabbed some wheels from HF on the way home and a chain and had it running the next evening. Dang fast with my 6'4" fat butt and one of the kids in it. I am going to have to throttle it down before I can let a kid loose on it.

I see them once in a while for $250 or less. You have to be mindful if you get one with missing parts though. A drive wheel with the hub and sprocket is $65. Chain is about $20. Actual go cart tires, not the wheels I bought from HF, cost about $15 a piece or more. Clutches about $30. The great thing about motors though, with a coupon you can get the HF 5hp for less than $100 and its design looks like it was copied after Honda.

Awesome, great info! You say the 5hp is enough to scoot you around pretty well? Between my daughter and me we're 200lbs.

My daughters kart has a 3 hp harbor freight engine on it and with me and her it does pretty well in concrete. Me and her together probably weight around 240. One thing I do need to do and tighten up the slipper clutch so it will stall up a little more for better take off. Ince your rolling around 15 mph it hauls ass.

You don't want your daughter in anything more than 5hp at that age...

You can hit 40+ with 5-6hp and the right gears.

There's actually a race class called chonda (Chinese Honda) based On those engines.

Plenty. Me and my kid together are maybe 300lbs and we were tearing across gravel and grass with no problems. We took it out on the pavement and felt like it was screaming. I got in it first just kidding around until I realized I actually fit. I couldn't help myself and stomped the go pedal and tore off across the yard with a maniacal laughter shredding through some Johnson grass.
