  • Pretty cool story from 2011.

Was watching animal planet tonight. Fatal attractions.
Got me thinking if I were in the situation where there's a lion or tiger in my backyard. Which weapon would I grab. So I did a Google search. To see if the 223 is enough to stop a full-size loin Then I got lucky and actually found the full story on this episode.

The story breaks down the different weapons the first responding officers used,
And there effectiveness. Glock 22. Rem 700 in 308. And M-4.

The animal was 10′ away when he pressed the trigger of his department issue Glock 22.
The bear collapsed instantly from the single shot

Yeah that's what shocked me too. I was expecting to read something like the officer dumping entire mag and the bear still Eating his ass.

I wouldn't trust my AR even with a 30rd mag. I would probably go for 7.62x54r nagant.

This is why the Alaska parks and wildlife service carry 12ga shotguns with slugs... A 70ish caliber ounce of lead at 1,200fps is a whole lot better dangerous animal stopper...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

I remember that event well. That the officers had to kill all of the animals made me ill but I understood the need. I would not have wanted to have been one of the men pulling the trigger. I wonder if Hornadys barrier 5.56 load would have performed better then the 55gr one that they were using.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.
