    Someone help me out here.

Someone I know was explaining how their dad was some special forces ops guy back at the start of the Vietnam war, but refused to fight based on various reasons. The main one being, they did not supply the troops with ammunition because it was a " peace keeping mission ".

Is this some BS they or perhaps their father made up?

The only verifiable info I have found out about him is that he was one of the original founders of ISOT ( a Cali based cult ). Which leads me to believe that maybe he came up with some crazy shit about his past.

Not saying any names. I've just never heard a story quite like this. Decorated war vet ect ect but we wouldn't give them ammo?

The dad has been long dead. I don't want to call this person out or drag anyone through the mud. I know there are a few history buffs here, so I thought I'd ask. I couldn't find anything after some Google searches. It's more for my curiosity.

Vietnam wasn't ever a peace keeping mission so that's a major flaw in their story.

We did send in a MAAG to try and stabilize things and help President Diem keep peace. We failed and shit escalated.

And special forces is NEVER sent somewhere without ammo. I'd ask for his DD214 or time period equivalent. If he comes up with 'covert' bs, he's lying. His 214 should show special forces school.

Our initial role in Vietnam was advisory only. I don't know about the no ammunition part, but we did start out just training and advising the South Vietnamese Army. Maybe that is what was being referenced?

By the way.. It is very possible that your friend mixed up the actual story his dad told him. Ever play that game "telephone"?

Not to mention the debriefing anyone in the early stages would have gone through before letting them loose in the civilian world. We had a fairly new CIA that was really good at pumping out propaganda. A great way to build support for a war here would be to send back troops complaining about a lack of ammo.
