  • The Rumbuilder Van

This is not your normal build thread.

I've been looking for a van to haul my RC planes around in for a while, I'm getting ready to start selling kits at shows and am starting a youtube show about RC scratch building. I wanted something that I could grab attention at events with and still be comfortable in on long trips. I had it in my mind to find a later model E-250, but this old 93 Dodge fell into my lap for next to free. My plan is to make it a 4 seater mobile workshop/ airplane hauler That lets people know that I specialize in Building and selling RC WWII bombers.

This might get a little ridicules, but you can just call it a hat tip to the 70's custom van craze if that makes you feel better, or you can just make fun of me for doing dumb stuff to an old van.

if you have any input on the videos, or the build itself feel free to speak up.
    plan so far is to
    tune up,
pull the back seat to make room for planes,
rip out the nasty carpet and replace it with something better,
remove side skirts because I hate them,
paint it green and add my logo and graphics,
    fiddle with the exhaust,
add a somewhat nice sound system,
replace all the interior lights with LEDs,
and obviously add the bits I need to work on airplanes while at the field; soldering iron, hot glue gun, deep cycle batteries, and a tool box.

I'm just imagining all the ice creme and candy that thing could haul.

I'm imagining the small chain link steering wheel, dingle berries hanging from the roof, and aztec woman that will be painted on the spare tire cover.

I'm just gonna leave this here...

That was a good thread. Got a soft spot for the vans. My dad fixed up a 77 Dodge back the day. Was great when I was racing BMX.

I have a 75 dodge shorty that my dad bought new in 75. It was our only vehicle until 94. I hope to start a restomod on it in 6 months or so...

cool, I've been lurking in the van thread for a while. I've driven it to work the last three days, and DAMN this thing is comfortable. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm really loving my Dodge van.

got a little done today, made one big improvement.

Those ground effects had to go! I also stripped downt the rear (now cargo area) The rest of the carpit is going to have to go probobaly, it's nasty.

I also added a kill switch for the interior lights at the back doors. Seeing as most of the time the rear doors will be open at the field, I didn't want the battery to die on me. bit didn't take any pictures of that.
Next I need to finish the carpets, and floor. I'm thinking of using bed liner, but I'm not sure yet.

Motor is strong, and it drives pretty nice. I need to get the oil changed and get the dang thing inspected. The shop I go to's dyno was broken today.

Put wood laminate flooring in there, I always thought that would look cool

Much better without ground effects. I could use 2 of those wheels to sell my Ramcharger if you get new ones.
