  • Barrel Length Question

Say I wanted to run a 9" barrel on an AR, but run it as a rifle. Could I permanently attach a piece of 1.5" tubing/pipe to the end of the barrel to bring it to 16"?

I'm wanting a suppressor, but that isn't in the budget for FY16, I've got most all the parts needed to put together another AR, just short the barrel and a stock.

I figured I'd buy the barrel once instead of buying a shorter one later for the suppressor(or having a longer one cut and threaded)

    Any opinions...

below is the basis for my question

I would mount something like this, only 7 inches long.

You can permanently mount a 7" flash hider on your barrel or permanently weld a 7" long suppressor and not have to register it as an sbr. But we're talking permanent like welded etc. your call.

9" barrel + 1.5" tube = 10.5" unless math changed recently? Anyway I second the sig brace.

Just register the receiver as an sbr.

I should have specified that the 1.5" dimension was the diameter of the tubing, not the length.

Just build as a pistol and never shoulder it or install foregrip. Then do paperwork when funding arrives and voilĂ  , no prison time.

yes, you can. But it has to be attached per the "permanent" ATF specs

just dont put any threading on the extension, as that would constitute intent for a silencer
