    VEPR 7.62x39

    Just picked up this VEPR from my local FFL. Ordered it last week and can't wait to get some range time in with it. Have a few ideas on upgrading it. The fit and finish is very nice on this rifle.

    VEPRs are outstanding AKs. I have a couple of the Robinson Arms imports that I bought new in the early 2000s and would not willing part with them. The only down side to them is that they are heavy as hell when compared to a regular AK.

          No you do not. The magazines suck. The .308s are really nice and the Csspec mags for it are excellent.

              There is a company, I forgot who, working on mags for three 54r guns. The shuttle thing is they are single stack guns so a 15 round mag is as long as a standard 30 round ak mag.

                Yeah the 54R guns have mag issues. The .308 Saiga's have better options, but the cheap ammo isn't there.

                  They feed fine if you are careful loading them. They just don't hold much and are very expensive.

                    12-13 years ago I was buying surplus 7.62x51 from Cheaper Than Dirt for 7 cents per round when it was on sale and with my buyers club discount. Exactly how much longer do you think that 7.62x54r is going to be cheap?

                      I just want one because I want one... I have a kink for russian stuff... hence my many AK's, and lots of 39 and 54r laying around.

                      I'm fine with only being able to send 5 rounds down quickly... or ten...
