  • Skid Steers ?

Anyone know anything about these beasts ? Looking at buying one, EFF they're expensive new. Obviously a lot of them get beat to hell and are all over on price on the used market. How many hours is too many and to be avoided ? Any brands to avoid ?
May just rent one or pay to get what I need done, but thought I might save a buck by buying one , using to for what I need and selling.

You'd have to need to use it a lot to justify buying. I like taco machines. Anything worth a shit with any size will be $25k or more.

They get used, and I find that after 2000 hours they get raggedy. I rent a good bit, and recently had a gehl with 800 hours break down. Something in fuel system. I also had a mini ex start leaking a good bit from something in the track sprocket region with 220 hrs. I've thought about buying one and look on occasion. Kubota has 0%

Looks like I can rent for about $700 a week. My current tractor I think will not be a good tool down there. Its not 4 wheel drive and I think its too big to work in the tight spaces to get all the cedar and brush out.
Maybe I'll get someone to come in and quote the job. Those guys that run these can run circles around me, and even at 700 a week, probably better to hire a pro.
I'd probably trade my current tractor off on a skid steer though. Just seems like a better tool for that area.

Really have to use the shit out of one to be worth a purchase. Saying that my boss bought one a couple years ago that was less than a year old and basically new. Between he and I it sees some use for sure.

I posted a similar thread a while back and Stephen gave lots of good info. Do a search for skid steer.

Most have hydraulic systems based around 2000 hour life, after that they need to be rebuilt.

Easier to search for threads you started..

I'm looking to purchase a skid steer some time this year. The problem is, I have zero experience with this type of stuff. I don't know what to look for, what options I need, etc. Will be buying used. Tracks would be preferred as opposed to wheels. It must be able to run a Turbo Saw, non negotiable. http://turbosaw

Another question, do those things have titles ? I was surprised that farm tractors don't have titles. Seems odd.

Nope, just bill of sale. Some manufactures will give you a print that looks official but the State of Texas snd Federal doesnt issue titles for them. get the serial number and call a local pd to have them run it and check to see if its registered as stolen. Any "to good to be true" equipment purchases are usually stolen.
