  • Bait and switch at Ray's?

Buddy of mine called me up last week and told me he found a great deal on an FNX45 Tactical Model for $700. He told me it was used, didn't come with a box, and only had two magazines. I looked it up and told him it was a good deal on it. So he picked it up and I went over to his house to check it out yesterday.

So it turns out it was not the Tactical Model and just the regular FNX45 although it was FDE. And they "magically" found the box and the third magazine. So he sounds like he paid retail for it and wasn't the deal he thought he got.

Does this sound like he got bait and switched? I haven't told him yet (because I didn't look into the price until I got home) and not sure if I will or should. He got the gun the wanted, just not the great deal he thought he was getting. Just another why I tend to only window shop at LGS and buy online. What do you guys think?

I would plant the seed of doubt. "I might be wrong, but I think that is not the tactical model" --- "looks like a regular FNX to me" -- If and when it ever comes up again.

As you say, he got the gun he wanted.

Ray's charging too much for a gun? You do not seriously expect us to believe that do you?
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

Not all the time. They have good deals on NFA stuff and I have bought a bunch from the in the past few years.

They didn't over charge him, they just mislead him on exactly what he was getting. Which is why I've debated about telling him. I'll probably mention it the next time I see him.

I'm pretty sure he realizes he didn't get the tactical model, that and the fact that he wasn't expecting to get the case or the third magazine but he did because that's what it comes with new. What I don't think he realizes is that he didn't get "a deal" and he basically paid regular price for a new gun.

They don't like to negotiate either. Their old client base is from days when you didn't have as much choice. But they have stuff in stock right now and you get to finger fuck it before purchase.

Back when I was looking for my first CCW I was shopping around and comparing prices on everything from Ruger LC9's, LCP's, Kel-Tec's, Glock's, etc....went in there asking various questions and the ONLY guns they had ANY interest in talking about were the absolute most expensive guns they had....bad talking any gun that wasn't over the 600 dollar price point.....the salesperson I talked to in my opinion was very arrogant and rude when I told him I wasn't spending 700 dollars for a 9mm conceal gun. Yes...they have a lot of inventory...but their prices don't seem that great to me considering what Walmart, Academy, Cabelas, or a few other legit gun stores sell it for. Their parking lot SUCKS ass too.

Agreed. I wish it wasn't so, as many times as I've tried to frequent the place. Everytime I've ever given them any business , it has not been a positive experience.
