Selling to a minor with parental consent

I have a minor (17) that wants to purchase one of my handguns. He says he can provide parental consent. Legal or not? I'm getting mixed info online.

Legal says he isn't allowed to own it. The parent has to own it. He can shoot it, but it can't be "his". Sell it only to the parent.

There is no minimum age to possess firearms under Texas law. Texas law prohibits intentionally or knowingly selling, renting, leasing, or giving or offering to sell, rent, lease, or give any firearm to any child younger than age 18. However, it is an affirmative defense to this offense that the parent or the person having legal custody of the minor had given written permission for the sale or, if the transfer was other than a sale, the parent or person having legal custody had given effective consent. Federal age restrictions impose stricter limits.
Federal law provides exceptions for the temporary transfer and possession of handguns and handgun ammunition for specified activities, including employment, ranching, farming, target practice and hunting.

In summery, I would not even though a prescient has been sent. I tend to not want to touch the electric fence.

(2) intentionally or knowingly sells, rents, leases, or gives or offers to sell, rent, lease, or give to any child younger than 18 years any firearm, club, or illegal knife;
...
(c) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under Subsection (a)(2) that the transfer was to a minor whose parent or the person having legal custody of the minor had given written permission for the sale or, if the transfer was other than a sale, the parent or person having legal custody had given effective consent.

Wouldn't risk it. Sell it to the parent, or sell to someone else.

After confirming the parent(s), I would only make the transaction/exchange with a parent. What they do with it afterwards is not your problem.

Realistically though, I'd probably just move on to the next buyer.

I wouldn't do the sale too many red flags

You don't want to be part of a media sting, or worse a legal sting operation and have some prosecutor and/or judge make you an example

That still doesn't look like it won't belong to the parent. I wasn't saying sell to the parent with the intention of having them hand it over the kid. I said sell to the parent, who will then let the kid shoot it sometimes.
