  • **PLEASE READ** - Help Support A Worthy Cause!

I have run off and on for a large portion of my life. Returned to running in my late 30’s as an attempt to lose weight and get into shape enough to keep up with balls of energy in the form of two boys. This goal was met; I shed over 75 pounds and felt great. During this journey I found my passion for running again. Until my first injury, I took being able to run for granted. It was then I had an epiphany. This is a gift, a privilege, and should be an appreciated ability.
Run after run, mile after mile the motivation and passion started to fade. Around this time my amazing wife Kellie became an actual paid employee after working as a staying home mom for the previous nine years. Entering back into the workforce she was lucky enough to find a job at the boy’s school. Her position was to be in PPCD, Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities. Not only has this became what I feel is her career calling, the little ones in her class have finally given me that new motivation I had been searching for, that "Run for a Reason". It is her kiddos and others like them I often think about on my runs. Runs are hard at times, very hard. It is during these times I think about those that are not able to run; it is then that I run for them.
Already scheduled to run the Houston Marathon, I was sitting one afternoon feeling excited and slightly OCD looking over the course. During this dissection of turns and elevation charts I stumbled upon the Run for a Reason program. Right away I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. I searched to find a charity that dealt with special needs children; this is when I found The Arbor School. Looking through their page and watching their video I knew I had found the charity I was searching for, one that I felt a connection with.

Children at The Arbor present a wide range of disabilities including, autistic-spectrum disorders, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and a variety of genetic, neurological, and seizure disorders. Many of these children were told that they would not walk, would not talk, and essentially were incapable of learning. Now, these very same children, are not only walking, but using assistive communication devices to talk, clearly demonstrating their ability to learn and be taught! All thanks to The Arbor’s unwavering commitment to educate even those deemed unable to learn.

Tuition only covers 60% of The Arbor’s operating expenses. It is programs like the Houston Marathon Run for a Reason that help make it possible to service up to 40 children and their families. Making The Arbor my charity for the Houston Marathon I set what I feel is a modest and reasonable goal. I am asking for your help in achieving this goal by making a tax free donation. Whether your donation is $1 or $1000, any amount helps us get closer to that goal!

The amount is not as important as the message sent to the kids. Whether it is $1 or $10000, please donate what you can!

      Bad ass man, thanks!!!

She emailed me yesterday and told me you had made the donation. Every morning they check the donations and let the kids color in a chart when they receive any donation, makes the kids day when they receive anything.
      Again thanks, it's appreciated!!!
