  • Tuner question

Just picked up a very lightly modded 09 gt (longtube headers, xpipes, purple injectors which I assume isn't stock?) And the the gears are apparently aftermarket. The Speedo is way off... I am new to this s197 witchcraft. I was told a tuner is needed. Is that so? Or can this be alleviated otherwise. Thx.

You should be able to fix it with a tuner. Maybe an SCT or another type of handheld

Ok, is it possible to just have someone re-cal my Speedo for a few bucks vs buying a tuner?

My advise is that getting a tuner really is the best option. It will solve your current speedo issues, once you enter your gear ratio and tire size. However, it is also a data logger and will read DTC codes. It's a good investment. SCT and Bama tuning has good deals on tuners with multiple tunes. And if you request it, will also look at your data logs and make adjustments. Just take the plunge. It's a very capable tool.

Roger. I did find one on Craigslist for $275. Sct x4. Unmarried with 5 unlocks. Came off the guys s197. He sent me a screenshot of the "about device" screen on the tuner showing no marriage and 5 unlocks. That a good deal?

Another option is a tuner that is a speedometer calibrator only. It will correct for different tire sizes, gear ratio changes and read and clear DTC codes. They are a little cheaper, but they don't allow you to increase performance.

I found another tuner that's local. Called a diablosport i1000. $225. Will this work too?
Sorry guys... I know this is all ridiculous sounding questions. I know nothing about this tuning shit. I appreciate ur help.

Dude, just go on the Diablosport website to see if it is compatible with your car and what options it has.

Edit: Here, I googled it for you.. http://www.diablosport.com/shop/products/trinity.html

It will definitely do what you want it to, and that is a good price, IMO.. New tuners like this one usually run from ~$350 to ~$600 and will do a ton of other stuff too.

I had the Diablosport Predator when I had a mustang which worked well, but it was just a flash tuner. This one is very much like what I have in the Jeep now, where you can run it on the dash with live gauges. I really like mine and don't even use it for the performance stuff..

Just be sure you plug it into your car and make sure it's not already paired before paying for it. These companies may unlock them for a verified original purchaser, but not so much for people buying used.

It's actually an older diablo called the i1000. The sheet still says itll work for my car. I callwd hpp today to see about recalibration. He told me that I don't need to be romping on it until I get a tune. He says I could be running overly lean due to the long tubes, etc.

Well, I picked it up for 175. I plugged in a canned tune for 91 octane performance and adjusted the axle ratio. The speedo is bueno now and I feel that it has more umph. Now to figure out custom tunes...
