  • Upgraded my optic.

Since I had my competition rifle built several years back I've been through a few optics. I grew as a shooter and wanted more out of my optics from features to quality of glass. Just recently I've found what I've ultimately been looking for in an optic that fits my competition needs.

I Went from a Vortex Viper PST - Vortex Razor HD Gen1 - Vortex Razor HD Gen 2 - Kahles K624i to this, the Schmidt & Bender PMii 5-25x56 LP H2CMR CM,CCW, LT MTC, DT/ST.

I literally have the exact same one sitting on my desk except I got the H59 reticle.

How did you decide to buy this scope? I researched and agonized for 3 months before I finalized what I was going to buy and then I had to wait for Brownells to send out one of their 10 percent off coupons before placing the order.

What rings are you using? I went with the high Warne fixed rings. The only reason I haven't mounted the scope yet is that I haven't figured out how to lap this style of ring yet. If you need to borrow it I have a 34mm ring lapping bar.

I've been shooting tactical/practical PRS style matches for the past 3 years so a big part of my decision was based on what I've shot with. I worked up from a very affordable Viper PST to the Gen 2 Razor HD which is a beast of a scope. I didn't care for the ERB-2C reticle in it and that lead me to sell it. My rifle builder shoots for Kahles and recommended the Kahles optics to me. For those unaware, Kahles is the tactical line of Swarovski optics so the glass quality is on up there with high-end optics. I picked up a Kahles with the AMR reticle which I thought I wanted but after shooting with it I found it to be too busy. The Kahles does have the largest eye box (field of view) I've found on any high-end optic with a 56mm objective and I loved that about it. Multiple things lead to the purchase of the S&B. One of my fellow shooters who finished 1st in the country in the PRS shoots for S&B. My rifle went down at the beginning of a match and he loaned me his backup rifle that was topped with the same scope I just bought. To my eyes, it was the clearest I've looked through. The PMii also has locking turrets which are a bonus and a simple yet useful reticle (H2CMR) I really liked. Mile High Shooting supply had the optic on sale at a price that was unheard of anywhere else so I couldn't pass it up. My fellow shooter has 4 of these and shoots in the range of 15k-20k rounds per year so I know they hold up to extreme conditions.

Shooting in the Texas Precision Rifle club and in the Precision Rifle Series has given me a lot of exposure to many different optics from Nightforce, US Optics, Vortex, Premier, Tanget Theta, Minox, Bushnell, Schmidt & Bender, and many others. Everyone's eyes are different and what works for me won't necessarily work for others.

You have circles at every MIL with 2/10ths sub-tensions.

In regards to scope rings, I'm using a SPUHR scope mount. They're one of the best mounts in the business with a solid return to zero when removed and reinstalled. A quality set of scope rings/ scope mount doesn't require lapping. None of the guys I shoot with have needed rings lapped. I even asked my rifle builder about lapping rings and the only time he's had to do it is when cheap rings are bought. Previously I've used Seekins rings and those haven't been perfect.

Sold it and put that money towards the Gen 1 Razor HD.

I lap rings out of habit. Even though they are cheap rings I have had outstanding success with the Warnes over the years.

The mount you posted a pic of looks like a brick and I have never seen anything like that in person before. It looks like Brownells sell them for under 500 bucks but unfortunately it doesn't appear that the discounts I normally get from them applies to the Spuhr product line. I may pick one up in a few weeks and use it instead of what I had planed on using. In your opinion is it the best mount around?

They're pretty damn solid. I've seen plenty of guys mount them up with scope in place, take them off, and remount them with no point of impact shift on their zero. You're right, they're big but they're designed to be rugged and take the abuse. Many shooters in the PRS and NRL use them.

They have MANY different options available.

Very sweet sand the spurh mount is awesome! I considered it but not in my starting out budget. I can see where I may upgrade later. I know when I do decide to make upgrades, I will be seeking your input.
