  • Ammo question.

Can you use 9mm Luger in any 9mm pistol? Specifically use 9mm Luger in a Glock 43 9mm pistol?
I read up on the differences of pressures of both 9mm Luger and 9mm NATO and it looks to me as though you can, but I can't seem to find an answer in either way.
After reading for over an hour I figured someone in this forum would know the answer.
Glocks website or instruction manual only specify SAMMI, CIP or NATO Ammo.

    TIA

Yes as long as it is 9x19. There are some russian chamberings in 9x18 and some european chamberings that are either 9x21 or 9x23 (can't recall exactly) but they are popular particularly in Italy due to laws regarding civilains being banned from military calibers. These are not all interchangeable. You are looking for 9x19 / 9mm Luger / 9mm parabellum / 9mm NATO.

NATO tends to be 10-15% higher pressure than Luger so if anything I'd be more concerned about shooting NATO through a non +P rated pistol.

Thanks guys, since the G-43 is a short barrel pistol, I would think that using 9mm Luger would not be as snappy as per se a 9mm NATO or 9mm+p...

Correct. It can handle the nato stuff, but it should be a little snappier. Standard 9mm luger ammo will do you fine. Try several brands. It is a glock and should eat anything, but sometimes small pistols are a bit picky with ammo.

I believe the NATO specs are closer to the original 9mm specs than the SAMI specs are. Sort of the way the normal old .38spl loads are hotter than the .38spl +p loads of today. The run of the mill euro comercial 9mm ammos have always been much hotter than what could be found in the US for most of my lifetime. That has changed in recent years.

Edit: I do not know this for a fact but I believe that the advancements in the tech used to measure chamber pressure has affected how legacy cartridges are loaded.

Sweet, I found a great deal on some 'Luger' ammo, so I wanted to stock up for gun range purposes. Though for home defense, I picked up some nice stuff when I bought the gun.

After the recent ammo drought, it’s good to see relatively cheap bulk pistol ammo returning to store shelves. But ammo buyers need to be aware that not everything is as it seems and not all ammo is created equal. I found this Winchester “150 Round Value Pack” of 9mm NATO 124 gr ammo for sale …
