  • Nascar still a thing?

I was wanting to start a discussion about nascar, and if any of you watch it.
As a kid I was obsessed with it. I was an Ernie Ervin super fan, and rooted for Allen Kwicky, Davy Allison, and Mark Martin when he was out of a race.
As I grew up I fell out of love with the sport. The "car of tomorrow" flat killed it for me. But a few years ago I got some free ticket and took my wife to her first race. Surprisingly she loved it. And before I knew it we where parked on the couch every Sunday, and at TMS for the local races.
Then Monster takes over as a sponsor and a bunch of rules change. I feel like the new stage racing rules makes the whole thing a lot more entertaining. My biggest gripe is the cars need to look more like the real cars( like Australian supercars) but all and all its a fun way to spend a Sunday after noon.

    What are your thoughts?

I'm not a fan of oval track or semi-endurance racing.

I like Sonoma and Watkins Glen...wish to God they would run at COTA.

I wont pay attention until they pick up more road courses. Then it would one up F1 in my book.

It’s fun I like to throw a few bucks on a car and see what happens. Kinda like horse racing with a lot more noise

I used to enjoy watching it. Maybe one of those southern past times. Now I could careless about it. The cars are annoying looking, the drivers lack any personality, and it’s constantly changing rules or sponsors.

            You're thinking of Kyle Busch

I would like the cars to resemble actual factory cars, and for the engines to be based on factory engines.

Bingo. Yeah, that's the best thing I have ever heard about nascar.

I stopped caring when the drivers turned into a bunch of whiny pussies.

bro, it begins and ends with days of thunder for me.

back when i was young in the early nineties, i would rather watch an iroc race than nascar.

You've clearly never been to COTA...100K is no problem. But the alcohol is expensive so the level of drunk is different.

The amphitheatre alone holds 14K and I've been to a packed willie Nelson concert there. They have plenty of party margin.

I liked old school NASCAR way better. I had season tickets to Bristol for several years. One of my best memories was seeing Butch Miller bring a Cup car into Bristol on a flatbed trailer behind a dually pick up. He made the show.
I raced at Devils Bowl for a number of years as well. Wish they had paved something close by.I would like to have tried the pavement game.
