  • Shipping a bench seat

Any cheap ways to ship a bench seat from VA to Texas?

I did this many years ago. Mounted it to a pallet, wrapped it, etc then went direct to a truck freight company - I think I used Old Dominion Freight Line.

Old Dominion is right by my house. Definitely not FedEx, UPS, USPS. Maybe U Ship?

uShip makes shipping motorcycles, boats, and other large items fast and affordable by connecting you to our network of carriers who compete for your shipment.

          Overpriced.
Wrap it yourself and get a quote from Fastenal. Cheapest option.

Next cheapest is to wrap it up, put it on a pallet, and then ship it from a business address to another business address (Freight Quote is good for getting the best bid).

Is it coming from an individual in VA?

I've shipped bumpers and the like via Greyhound bus. They put packages in the cargo hold under the bus. You just have to get it from the nearest station. The other person would have to be willing to take it to a station as well.

They have online shipping calculators and size limitations.

Yeah coming from an individual, I’ll see if he’ll try Greyhound or Fastenal

If you ship it with a company like Fed Ex Freight, UPS Freight, Old Dominion or Yellow Freight get full insurance on it and expect it to be damaged upon arrival.

Just the way it goes unfortunately. Yes ship it to a buddy's business and save bucks.

Make sure you have the guy put signs all over the pallet "DO NOT DOUBLE STACK"

I've also heard Greyhound is a good option

Another option I didn't see mentioned is Beaver Express

Last year I sold a Fusion trunk lid and the buyer asked me to drop it off there. They even do COD which is what my buyer did.

btw what bench is worth shipping?? post a pic

Fastenal will ship from store to store for pretty damned cheap. See if they have one local to where it's shipping. Then just bolt it down to a pallet, wrap it up, and send it on it's merry way.

                      just fyi on fastenal
Fastenal will only pay damage claims for shipments that are fully enclosed inside a crate. Fastenal's definition of a crate is an enclosed box, made of durable wood or metal, strapped to a pallet, with no part of the crate hanging over the pallet. Fastenal will ship uncrated items with no insurance. Maximum payout of $250.00.
A bench seat will probably overhang a standard 48x40 inch pallet. Bench seat in my suburban is 57 inches.

Beaver Express is a regional carrier including Arkansas, Oklahomas, Louisana and Texas. Not sure if they go to VA. If they do then they farm it out to a LTL company.

Greyhound may be the best bet.

The maximum weight per package is 100 pounds. The maximum dimensions that we can accommodate are 29" H x 47" W x 82" L.

All shipments must be packed in containers made of durable material and of quality sufficient to withstand handling on buses. All packages containing FRAGILE or PERISHABLE articles must be marked in large letters, preferably with appropriate labels. See Terms and Conditions of Purchase and Carriage for complete packaging requirements. Additional restrictions apply for auto parts as listed below.
Auto parts will need to be tendered with OEM packaging. If manufacturing packaging does not exist we will accept at the shippers risk or at no declared value.

Bench is for my 64 Bel Air, apparently only 61-64 2 door Bel Air and biscaynes rear benches interchange and trying to find one sucks. My frame is pretty rotten or I’d try to fix it.
