  • Exterminators

As far as termite treatments are concerned, is there a benefit in going with a major chain like terminex or orkin? This is one of those adult purchases I havent quite ever had to make.

    Also accepting local recommendations

Have you actually seen activity? If you know where they are, you can use termidor foam (active ingredient is fipronil) and it will kill the colony and will cost about $40

Fipronil is a little different than most insecticides.. it doesn’t kill on contact.. they touch it and then go bumping around on each other and eventually the entire colony dies in a couple months as long as you expose them to the foam..

The insects are just peaceful protesting. Respect their right to protest injustice.

Orkin will just come to your house and dig a shallow trench (a few inches) around the foundation and put termidor down. You can buy termidor on Amazon. In areas of concrete they will drill small holes about every foot and pump it below the slab then seal them up with epoxy once they are done.

It all lasts about ten years.

Little bastards ate the corner out of my mancave. Went with the shock and awe approach of that foam, and the pellets that go in the ground. Not a single termite since them.

I trenched my house earlier this year and it wasn’t bad.. I used a pick axe.. the insecticide was about $100

It’s easier than it sounds.. you only have to dig about 6 inches deep and 6 inches out.. then you mix it in 5 gallon amounts..

Most pest control companies charge anywhere from 800-2500 for what you can do in a weekend

Thanks for the tips bros. Usually I would do this myself, but it's more for the potential buyer. I plan to list my house very soon and have seen recent activity. I don't want to lie on my disclosure statement, I don't want the inspector to find an issue and me not have a response, and I want paperwork and proof that I had a professional company come in. $800-$2500 is what I've had in mind. My home is 1200 sqft, I've mentally set aside $2000 for this project.

I just don't know if a big box company is worth it, but after some consideration I'm sure a potential buy would rather see a name they trust rather than "bobs budget bug killer"

Taurus SC! I have bought 4 of the big bottles. 3 to do the house and some of the fence, then some bonus for random treatments.. I have trenched almost all the way around the house but the back was the only problem at one point.

If it’s for a potential home buyer go with mom and pop style cheapest route.. there’s no rocket science involved.. it’s basically just a barrier

Before the EPA got involved they used to do soil poisoning before building a new house. They'd use things like DDT and it would last forever, you'd never have termites. Now we have to use the worthless shit that lasts ten years. They still do this in a lot of foreign countries.
