  • Found my old Calypso Coupe

I've been looking for this car on and off for many years and finally located it!!!

    Long but please read.

In 2003 I joined the Airforce and at the time didn't have a car. The fox body was always my dream car as a kid but my mom and stepdad wouldn't let me have one. I got my DL in 96' and begged for one but instead, I got the old shop truck from Sachse Rod shop which my stepdad owned. It was a 88 Mitsubishi Might Max, 4 banger, 5 speed, lowered w/ roll pans, and the Sache Rod Shop logo on the tailgate. I spent three summers beforehand mowing grass and cleaning the shop to pay for it.*

*Fast forward to 2002 and I joined the Air Force and my mom is battle ovarian cancer, she passed a month after I graduated boot. I got 8k in inheritance and finally had a*good job*and money to afford a fox body mustang, hell I didn't have any car at the time. I found this super clean 1993 Calypso coupe in Carrollton for $7500 with a 306, AFR 165's, GT40 intake, et cetera. So I drove down from Sheppard AFB and she was mine. I then took that car to Luke AFB Arizona and then Hill in Utah, working on it at the hobby shops on base modding it more. In 04 l palace chase to the Texas ANG and I'm back in DFW. (side note: I actually lived in this car for a few weeks between leaving active duty and going the guard because I had nowhere to go and couldn't afford an apartment)*

The first night I made it back, I meet my wife at a get-together at my brother's house, so we start dating. By 06 we want to get married but we're broke, she was a carhop at sonic and going to cosmetology school and I was a E3 in the Guard as a temp tech. So I had to sell the car to pay for it. By then it had a B&G turbo kit with all the supporting mods that I paid for from my first deployment to Afghanistan which was earlier that year. I sold it for 8k, hell I had over 5k in the turbo upgrade but fox bodys weren't that hot then and I needed the money.*

My wife always promised me she would buy it back for me one day. We both became more successful, she would up owning her own Hair Salon making 6 figures and I became a Guard*WG-12*Technician. Every once in a while I would try to find it, but it was nowhere to be found on the internet and I lost the bill of sale w/ the Vin.*

Then my wife passes away in 2018...*

For whatever reason this past week it pops in my head to try to find it agian. I finally got the idea to search an old email account and luckily after lots of digging, I found one email from the guy I sold it to in Conroe TX. He sold it to someone else in 2015, and I was able to find that guy and he still has it. It's now a full blow drag car make 1100hp. The sad news is he doesn't want to sell it but now I know where it is at. And I'll keep trying until I die to get it back in hopes of one day passing it to my son.*

You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

I was going to say the same thing after the title I figured you had gotten it back. Hopefully someday you can get it back since it has such sentimental value. At least you have good memories from it and you can never get rid of those.

Suicide, never ignore your love ones mental health. I'm actually engaged now and she's also widowed from suicide.

And I asked the guy yesterday if he did ever what to sell it, how much. Responded back today with "I'll think about it". So we went from I can't justify selling it to i'll think about it, just planting seeds. If its still a no I set a alert on phone to contact him every 6 months to ask agian.

Sorry to hear! That's a terrible loss to deal with! My mom's two brother both committed suicide and it took a toll on my mom's mental health and of course my Dad's drinking an mental abuse towards her didn't help. It's just something impossible to get over. You gotta keep living and move past it ya know?

I hope you get the car. I'm rooting for ya!

Judging by his setup, I don't think he's ever getting rid of the coupe.

What's he got under the car cover? Miata?

I'm betting it's a Corvette under the cover.

I get the sentimental value, though I can say with certainty that if I found either my '87 or '98 in drag car spec, I'd be looking to pass something else along to my son, even if it were a coupe re-sprayed on Calypso green.
