Colorado Q- Where do you like to go?

I'm eyeing Colorado for a small cabin that can be managed by someone like Vacasa for STR. First preference is trout fishing, and Lake City the only place I'm familiar with, but I'd be forced to go with a local management company. There are a couple of smaller groups of cabins there where management is part of the deal if you buy one. Second preference is somewhere where skiing is also an option, bc I'd like to get my girls in to that.

Any trout fishermen on here?

Lake City is a 16 hour drive and that's the absolute limit. Would love 12 hours (from Austin)

Friend of mine has a cabin on the Fryingpan just southeast of Glenwood springs. Skiing, fishing, hiking and plenty of other things to do in Glenwood and surrounding areas.

Not sure you're going to find skiing and fishing together within 12 hours of Austin. Hell 9.5 hours of that trip are all in TX.

Have you thought about the Red River/Taos area?

Not sure how it is now, but earlier this year, the water was really fucked up from the fires and rain washing all the soot into the river. My parents said they saw on the news where it looked like it was just a black river, lol.

I like Black Hawk myself. Fishing, gambling, and skiing is nearby.

Cuchara valley. 9hrs from DFW. Tons of fishing options: bear lake, blue lake, north lake, monument lake, and plenty of public land river access. Relatively cheap compared to other areas due to no ski resorts. We go twice a year. Caught about 60 trout in North Lake in a few trips.

As in Colorado Springs? It sounds like he's looking for a cool little mountain town. Colorado Springs is kind of a shit hole as far as Colorado goes. Not as bad as Pueblo, but still a shit hole.

If you really want great fly fishing and skiing together, check out Crested Butte, but you better be filthy rich. Other good options are Buena Vista, Salida, and Gunnison. Maybe Pagosa Springs or South Fork.

I'm still partial to Lake City. Closest skiing is 90 mins away in Crested Butte, though.
