  • Why is there a huge difference in upload speed vs actual upload speed?

When I upload pics to my photo website, it takes 34.8 seconds to load a 4.17MB file. My Speedtest upload speed shows 1MBS.

Shouldn't that file take 4.17 seconds instead of 34.8 seconds?

Because internet speed is in megabits per second, not megabytes per seconds. So, my upload speeds are .64Mbps, but that is only 80.4 kilobytes per second, so it would take 51 seconds for me to upload a 4mb file.

Run this test, it will tell you at the end how many kilobytes per second you are actually uploading at.

                Word. 1 megabyte = 8 megabits
