      I myself and Mike(did a little research a while back he when dropped off for a long period of time)

      All of the activity on the other boards that he belonged to all stopped around the same time. Over the years I think I heard him mention he was a diabetic and a big guy. If I am wrong, then my my apologies. He went from being fairly active to no activity, so something is a miss.

        It's really not that hard to do. Controlling the water temperature when steeping my grains was the worst part for me but only because the burner I have is ridiculously over powered. I plan on using my immersion circulator for that on the next batch. That and I'm kegging mine, bottling makes it a little more complicated.

          So for an update I'm working on my 5th batch right now and it's probably got another week in secondary before I keg it.

          It's a pretty cool hobby honestly and you can get everything you need to start for well under $200. Especially if you already have a decent gas burner of some sort. Then it's easy to build from there. You could also spend $2k for a Picobrew system that does everything for you or half that for a Grainfather. Those both are awesome but don't leave a lot of room for growth.

            I don't drink beer anymore but was interested in trying it out when I did. Just one of the many things I never got around to.

            My dad has been been doing it for maybe 15 or 20 years, but was taught by his cousin who, even at the time, was actually selling his to local taverns and bars around him (Puget Sound area). He's gotten really good and brews from scratch. He even grows his own hops every year on his deck. He has a really cool old fridge turned kegerator on his deck too. Don;t have a very good pic though:



            And.. My son has been working at a restaurant brewery for a couple years, first as a server, now a bartender, and more recently, 2 days a week he's working on the brewery side and his goal is to become a brewmaster, etc.. Apparently he has a lead on a full time gig at a microbrewery he's pursuing now.

              If he's really interested http://www.abgbrew.com/ has a great program. https://www.siebelinstitute.com/ pretty much sets the standard. Of course San Diego State has a really good program as well. Or locally Eastfield has a program as but I don't know anyone whose gone through it.

              Or at a minimum look into a cicerone certificate.
