  • 2002 Camaro - my favorite color

I'm trying to knock out a few builds for the MCMA in March. This will get entered in the box stock category. No mods, just painting for detail. This was started as a build off for a Facebook group. The stipulation of the build off was no airbrush. So, everything is aerosol or brush painted.

The body is painted with SOM from a can and topped with Model Master Lacquer clear coat.

2002 Camaro in Sunset Orange metallic.

Engine in the chassis. Again, just some creative painting for effect and contrast

Undecarriage. I went for an "overspray" from painting the body. Incomplete coverage is intentional.

The body went from bare plastic to clear coat in 2 days. I will let it sit for a week and then polish it to a show car shine.

I read this all the time from those who've sold their f-body. I hardly drive mine anymore, but refuse to sail until I can't drive it anymore.

I spent a little time polishing the body for the SS tonight. Cell phone pictures do not do it justice.

Thanks. I tried to mock up the front bumper and realized I may not be 100% happy with the ride height. This was built with the sole intention of being entered in the box stock class at the MCMA showdown in March, so it has to be built in stock form. At least that is my understanding of the rules

Honestly I miss my Talon more than any other car. Sure I had fun with Camaros but you expect a car with ET streets, a roll bar and a bottle to be fast. You don't expect a little green car that looks like a Cobalt to gap you on the street though. Especially when most of them had the crappy Neon drivetrain.

I've been cleaning up the body for this the last couple of days. I started this as a build off for a facebook group. The rattle can challenge, basically trying to see how good of a finish we can get with nothing but rattle can paint on the body.

Primer: Rustoleum dark gray filler primer
Base coat: Sunset Orange Metallic from automotivetouchup.com
                            Clear: Model Master clear lacquer

Finally, this is the first time I've went to the extent of waxing one of these things. 2 coats of collinite 915.

In this picture with the flash, you can still see some swirls from polishing. I MAY have rubbed tgrough the clear, though I'm not sure. It was a bit hazy before I waxed it.

I will buff it out in a few days and apply a 3rd coat of wax if needed. By far, the best paint job I've produced.
