  • 2011 F150 Pinion Seal

Just noticed the pinion seal on the rear axle of my F150 is starting to leak.

I'm sure that changing the seal isn't too difficult and it seems like this is a common problem. However, i cannot figure out what the correct part number is for the seal.

I've tried looking it up through multiple sources but I'm not confident in what I've found. Does anyone know the correct part number?

The truck vin is 1ftfw1e67bfb23550, if that helps.

    thanks

Why not just call a Ford dealer and give them the VIN? It can't be that much more than an aftermarket and probably better quality.

^^^^ This. With few exceptions aftermarket pinion seals are junk.

Sorry, I thought we had ford parts people here. That's what I wanted, just didnt have time to call a dealer and sit on hold for 20 minutes

          BL3Z-4676-A for 9.75" differential
          BR3Z-4676-A for 8.8" differential.

They is also oil slingers/deflectors that will probably need replacing. Google can help you find the best prices.

Is there a tag on the diff? Also look up a Ford vin decoder, that should tell you the type of axle.

I got through a few Ford vin decoders with no results for which axle before I posted the thread. This was the main reason for my confusion.

I havent crawled under it to look for a tag. I know its 3.73 gears with limited slip.

I'd assume with the 6.2 that it's the 9.75, but don't assume anything.

                  Copied from another site.

There should be a tag on the back of the axle it will have numbers like 9 75 3l 55 or 8.8 3l 55 or 8.8 3l 75. It might not have the " L " in the middle. The 9.75 or 8.8 is the ring gear size and the second set of numbers is the ratio.

Yeah, I finally found that it was the 9.75.

                    Changed it over the weekend.

                    thanks
